Preserve table state when leaving and returning to view

It is handy to filter an object-table, find a particular set objects, then navigate to the selected object, do something and return back to the table view.

Problem is, each time you return to the table view the filters are automatically reset and you have to redo the filters. This is time consuming and frustrating. How can I preserve my previous filters when return to a view?
